Welcome to your holiday home by the lake
Directly on the lakefront of Lago Ceresio (Lake Lugano) and only ten minutes from Lugano by car, nestles the dreamy little village of Gandria with its winding alleys, steps, courtyards and covered arcades. Anyone looking for peace and quiet and the charms of nostalgia will find a little corner of paradise here. Time seems to have stood still for 100 years. The village is closed for traffic and has preserved the original character of many buildings such as, for example, the 17th-century San Rocco Chapel. At the foot of the Monte Bré, Gandria is the perfect departure point for excursions trips to Lugano and further afield in Ticino, as well as for long days of dolce farniente.
Small but beautiful - our "House Tamaris" is located at the end of the village, on a slope directly below the main road. You reach it via a long, wide flight of steps. The total of 7 holiday apartments offer spacious living areas and plenty of room to feel good for up to 6 people. The modern apartments all have a lake view and are decorated in a bright, Mediterranean style. A pretty overgrown path leads to the house’s own jetty with a small place to sunbathe and private swimming access. Due to the steep terrain and the depth of the lake, we do not recommend these holiday homes for holidays with small children.

Sentiero di Gandria
The Sentiero di Gandria is a hiking trail that leads from Gandria to Lugano. It is about 2.5 kilometres long and offers beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding landscape. Peace and quiet characterise this hike, passing flowers and typical Mediterranean shrubs. A branch off from the main path leads to the olive park with centenary trees and educational panels presenting its history and special features.
Swiss customs museum
The Swiss Customs Museum is to be found in an old border guard post, directly on the banks of the lake only a few metres away from the Swiss-Italian border. A visit to the museum may be ideally combined with a walk through the picturesque surroundings or a meal in one of the nearby caves where you can enjoy the best Ticino fare. There are also picnic areas alongside the museum.
Monte Brè
It's worth making the trip here just for the views of the city and Lake Lugano. Funicular railways run in two sections from the edge of Lugano to Monte Brè, the scenic mountain above the lake basin and the vibrant city. Descents down to Lugano or the lake, always via the Brè village, are in part pretty steep, as are the nature and archaeological trail to Gandria.
Lido di Lugano
Like the old bathing huts, it was originally built in homely wood: The "Lido di Lugano" bathing establishment on the shores of Lake Lugano. The large bathing complex was later supplemented by a modern outdoor pool with an Olympic pool and 10-metre diving platform. Today, the baths have two parts: a sporty, lively swimming pool and a cosy lido that is more geared towards relaxation and leisure. The beautifully renovated lido has also succeeded in largely preserving the charm of the old Lido.

Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt einzig der Fischgeschmack, der Fischresten in der Spüle von unseren Vorgängern - war etwas störend so wie auch der klebrige Küchenboden. Ansonsten war aber alles tiptop!

Wir haben zum sechsten Mal eine sehr schöne Ferienwoche in Gandria genossen. Wie jedes Jahr waren wir mit der Wohnung in sämtlichen Belangen sehr zufrieden. Wir bedauern den geplanten Verkauf der einwandfreien Liegenschaft sehr. Für uns ist dies nicht verständlich, da sich das Gebäude an einmaliger Lage mit direktem privatem Seezugang befindet (Baden im Luganosee). Eine solche Liegenschaft zu veräussern ist schlicht "dumm" und wohl eher kurzfristigem Denken geschuldet (" Profitorientierung"). Wir wären froh, wenn Sie dies Ihrer Geschäftsleitung weiterleiten könnten. Vielen Dank Freundliche Grüsse Nicole F.

About the location
Your holiday accommodation in Gandria
Gandria is on the eastern bank of Lake Lugano and at the foot of the Monte Brè. Its winding alleyways and picturesque location makes this former Ticinese fishing village an extremely popular destination with tourists.
On the opposite side of the lake, only accessible by boat, are the Cantine di Gandria, the community wine cellars. Not far is the Swiss Smuggler Museum!
A comprehensive sports and leisure offer awaits you as well as shopping possibilities in Lugano which is only 6 km away. For excursions and shopping a car is recommended. There is only a small shop in Gandria with a small selection of products.
About the region
Hikers, cyclists, bike racing buffs, golfers, yachtswomen, gourmets, racing drivers, nature enthusiasts and culture lovers … Ticino brings a smile to everybody’s face! Favourite destinations in the Sopraceneri region are the southern foothills of the Alps, the medieval castles in Bellinzona, Locarno with the international film festival, the markets in neighbouring Italy and the romantic Maggia and Verzasca valleys. The Sottoceneri region around fashionable Lugano offers lakes and mountains, culture, first-class musical events, culinary highlights as well as great shopping opportunities. The southern part of the canton is particularly interesting for anyone looking for the perfect combination of urbanity and nature.
Ticino attracts visitors with its southern charm and sub-tropical vegetation unique to these parts. In Switzerland’s “sun lounge” you’ll enjoy the particularly mild climate from spring right through until late autumn.
Directions
By train: Travel to Lugano, from railway station by taxi to Gandria, go past the place-name sign to the second petrol station (Mondial Change)... the Tamaris House is immediately after this on the right.
By car: Take the motorway exit ‘Lugano-Nord’, then follow road signs to ‘Gandria/St. Moritz’. Pass the Gandria place-name sign to the second petrol station (Mondial Change, and the house is immediately after this on your right-hand side. About 30 meters after the petrol station you will find the parking spaces with the flat numbers.
